Fox Run Regional Park, Colorado Springs
Fox Run Regional Park is a huge park in a nowhere-land between Briargate and Black Forest. Reaching it by Roller Coaster Road is half the fun! Couples marry in the gazebo on the lake with the stone amphitheater for seating. It's an amazing place for fall photos with Pikes Peak towering in the background.
Location:
- Off the I-25, take the Gleneagle/North Gate Blvd exit (exit 156) and go east toward the Mining Museum. You can either take a left on OLD North Gate Road (before Discovery Canyon School) and another left on Roller Coaster Road. Or you can just catch Roller Coaster Road from North Gate Boulevard. [Don't get confused between OLD North Gate Road and North Gate Boulevard. Two entirely different streets!] Entrances to play areas are off Stella or Roller Coaster. MAP to Fox Run Regional Park
Highlights:
- Incredible views and picture-taking possibilities
- I divide this park into 3 different areas great for kids: 1) a newer play area left of Stella Drive entrance, 2) the lakes for exploring, and 3) the older/smaller play area to the right of Stella Drive entrance.
- Love the wide open feeling and exploration possibilities here - fun to hike the short hill from the new play area up to the lakes
- The kids like the plastic tire swing and teeter-totter at the newer play area
- Metal slide at the older play area is fast fun
- Tons of room to run - even adults can take to the trails around here for mountain biking or trail running loops
Be Aware:
- All Colorado parks carry a "watch for wildlife" warning - this one seems like a prime area for bears
Checklist:
- Dedicated FREE parking near each play area
- Play surfaces are sand, recycled rubber and bark
- Bathrooms near each play area (don't remember seeing any up by lake)
- Lots of shade all from pine trees
- Benches for viewing kids at play
- Large picnic gazebos and smaller tables with grills
