Cottonwood Creek Park, Colorado Springs
Cottonwood Creek Park is a favorite for its central location, ball fields, hockey rink, disc golf course, soccer fields, and expansive play areas. On a clear day, amazing views of Pikes Peak are visible from every corner of this park. Plus, it's adjacent to the Cottonwood Creek Recreation Center and aquatics facility.
Location:
In the northeast part of town at 3920 Dublin Blvd., at the corner of Dublin Boulevard and Rangewood Drive. MAP to Cottonwood Creek Park
Highlights:
- This park has everything in one central location: a recreation center, multiple levels of play equipment, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a walking trail, a nearby golf course and an in-line hockey rink.
- For the older kids, there's a very tall "slide tower" with a tunnel slide, spiral slide, and bumpy slides accessed by stairs, a climbing wall, or ladders.
- Big kid swings are close by, along with monkey bars, spinning equipment, and a zip track.
- For preschoolers, there's a much more expansive play set with smaller slides; bridges; a big purple climbing area; and props like steering wheels.
- Above the main park, a smaller play area is for young children. It's very manageable for parents of toddlers, with baby swings located nearby.
Be Aware:
- When the park is busy, it can be difficult to keep track of kids. It is definitely not a "sit around and relax" park for parents -- more of a "chase after the kids" park.
- Some of the equipment is very tall, which poses a risk for young children who are tempted to climb
Checklist:
- One parking lot is at the Recreation Center off Dublin (expect a steep walk down to the play area). Second parking lot is off Montarbor Drive which provides hill-free access to the play area (see map under Location above).
- This is a well-trafficked park located in residential area. The play area sits lower than the Recreation Center and far from any street danger.
- Bark play surface
- Minimal shade from trees, but there is one covered picnic area.
- Restrooms located up a steep hill inside the Recreation Center
- One covered picnic area, but lots of tree planters and benches where you can enjoy a meal. Ideal for lunching on the lawn.
- Dogs allowed, but must remain on-leash in all city parks. Some owners run their dogs on the fenced-in baseball diamond.
- City of Colorado Springs community parks list
